About
istock_000003134107xsmall.jpgSustainable Berkeley is a collaborative created to leverage resources and improve coordination among Berkeley's sustainability and local economic development efforts. Formed in the spring of 2006, Sustainable Berkeley brings together civic, private sector, university, and community leaders to act on a broadly shared passion for rapidly progressing toward a sustainable future.

The group is an outgrowth of a three-year series of meetings among civic, community, and business representatives in Berkeley to support the implementation of community-wide sustainability efforts in the immediate and long-term.

The initial work plan of Sustainable Berkeley focuses on goals that have garnered enthusiasm over three years of community engagement including making Berkeley:
  • A Zero Waste Economy;
  • Carbon Neutral;
  • An Environmental Business Powerhouse; and
  • Home to the Greenest Hospitality Sector in the Country.
